Holiday shopping could be overwhelming for everyone, however for people on the autism spectrum who have a problem with sensory overstimulation, large stores bustling with crowds and holiday music could be a nightmare. Which is the reason this idea is so cool: A Pennsylvania Target offers quiet shopping hours for people with autism through the holidays. As somebody who is sort of (very) obsessed with Target, this story makes me happy. And it makes me feel a little bit better about spending too much of my paycheck in Target’s home wares section. (Seriously, I can’t manage to stop buying gold lamps. I love them. I want them everywhere.)

As an element of that commitment, we empower our store leaders to create decisions which help meet the needs of the guests they serve. The shop leader of our own Lancaster East store worked with his team and native community partners to create a welcoming shopping event for his guests on the autism spectrum and we applaud his efforts.
The spokesperson claimed that Target isn’t currently intending to hold such events in other locations, nevertheless the company is “always looking for new approaches to further enhance our guests’ shopping experience.”

Christmas Eve, a Saturday this coming year, has an even wider variation in hours, such as 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Independence Center and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Legends. But other choices at the USPS and other services keep delivery options wide open.
Keep in mind that prices often increase because the holiday nears. As an example, FedEx offers delivery on Dec. 24 on several shipping options, but there is an added $16 fee per package. Friday is the last day Amazon free shipping will deliver by Christmas. Ditto for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery. Following a weekend of shopping, shipping deadlines begin to accumulate.
