Fiber proof testers are designed to apply a set load to a fusion-spliced optical fiber so that you can test the effectiveness of the spliced fiber. Our Fiber Coloring Machine are available in both linear and rotary designs, for proof and tension testing. Fiber proof testers are available for single mode, multimode, and polarization-maintaining fibers. Choose from dedicated, standalone systems or multipurpose designs which are also capable of stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing, and/or recoating.

Fiber Recoaters with Proof Testers offer easy, integrated answers to recoat and test fusion-spliced fibers. The fiber recoating process restores the buffer coating to some stripped fiber, offering more flexibility when compared to a heat-shrink protection sleeve, enabling it to be handled and coiled without damaging the fusion-spliced section. The integrated linear or rotary proof tester allows users to immediately test a recoated fiber using a pre-determined load and determine the long-term reliability of the fiber. Because of their ability to restore a fusion-spliced fiber to near original condition, these systems are perfect for applications like undersea optical fiber cables, submarine communication cabling, fiber lasers, or Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR) lasers.

The procedure begins with the fusion-spliced section of fiber being placed in the center of the mold assembly (see image to the correct). Once placed in position, inserts within the fiber blocks secure the spliced fiber in place. Recoat material is pumped to the cavity and after that UV-cured. The recoated fiber may then be tested by pulling on it up to a pre-determined load.

Recoater and Mold Assembly Options

Recoaters can be purchased with either a computerized or manual mold assembly. The Secondary Coating Line features pneumatic control over the mold plates and it is optimized for high-volume manufacturing applications. Manual mold assemblies, on the contrary, use hinged mold plates that offer more flexibility and are ideal for low-volume manufacturing or R&D applications. An automatic or manual volumetric dispensing pump and injection method is used to inject the recoat material in to the mold cavity.

The PTR208 automatic recoater comes standard using a mold assembly for Ø430 µm coated fibers; For the manual recoaters (Item #s PTR206, PTR206B, PTR307, and PTR307B), the mold assembly comes separately in order that customers can choose the right mold coating diameter for his or her application. Custom mold coating sizes are available approximately Ø900 µm. Pre-setting up the mold assembly on the factory can also be available. We provide both high-index (Item # AB950200) and low-index (Item # PC373) recoat materials to be used in these recoaters. Recoaters with manual injection pumps (Item #s PTR206B and PTR307B) are compatible with both varieties of recoat material; all other recoaters are compatible with our prime-index material only. Our manual recoaters with the automatic injection system (Item #s PTR206 and PTR307) could be customized to do business with both the low- and high-index recoat material; please contact Tech Support for more information.

Proof Tester Options

The PTR206, PTR206B, and PTR208 Fiber Recoaters include a built-in linear proof tester, that takes the fiber as much as a predetermined load (20 N) and then releases it. The linear proof tester uses the same fiber holding blocks as the recoater and thus the fiber does not have to be moved before testing. The PTR307 and PTR307B Fiber Recoaters come with Secondary Coating Line, which could perform both proof and tension tests (?89 N). One group of proof test grips is included; replacement proof test grips are available below in packs of 10. Each testing process is fully programmable using the included handset or tablet controller, allowing the consumer to pick parameters like the load, the pace at fseejm the stress is applied, and also the hold time.

Inserts for Fiber Holding Blocks

Along with the above, we offer many different inserts for use inside the fiber holding blocks in the recoaters to be able to support a variety of fiber coating diameters. For recoaters having a rotary proof tester, the inserts are compatible with fiber coating diameters in a vary from 125 µm to 900 µm. For recoaters with a linear proof tester, the inserts cover a range for fiber coatings from Ø250 µm to Ø900 µm.
